But you cannot as you cannot click the restore button. You have to change PE version to get higher resolution.

    It is very easy.

Select Other Tasks from Macrium Menu and click "Create Rescue Media"

    Click "Change PE Version"

    Select Win PE5

Then carry on creating new Rescue Media

Sorry mate, I understood what you said just a little late, it could have save me a little time of freshly install thenew window. But anyway i got it, just restoring the image now. I just got a little problem , i made a system image backup of window through windows inbuild backup utility but now i am not able to restore it back. So is that possible if i can convert the window system image into macrium image and then restore it through marcrium. I already converted the window system image into macrium image but when i restore it and boot the system it says no bootable device selected. But while converting that window image file i noticed there were 2 vdhx files and i just converted the bigger one which was like 40 gb and other one is 170 mb so do you think i need to convert the both vdhx files into macrium to make it work?

I am afraid I have no idea what you are talking about. Windows image backups and Macrium image backups are totally different beasts, and there is no way you can convert one to the other as far as I know.

Great tutorial!!! Finally I have a safe recovery plan I think.

My windows system and most apps run on a 110 gig SSD (C drive) with some apps and heaps of data on a seagate 2TB hard disk drive (E drive).

I am no way a power user of windows 10 so thought I'd ask, if I only backup (using MR) the C drive is that a complete system backup of windows 10 or is there a chance there are some vital windows files on the E drive that have ended up there?

I don't really have the room to backup the whole E drive. I just want to recover from SSD total failure. I don't mind losing applications which are easily replaced...

I am sure this is a common situation for a lot of people, to have a small SSD running windows and apps and a huge disk drive for data?

Am I running the risk that if the E-drive dies and I haven't backed it up that windows could go looking for info there and crash???

Hi guys, just regarding the Differential and Incremental backups which one is recommended as i read about them both and i am still kinda confuse between them. For me they both seem to do the preety much same thing.

    There are two main differences.

1/ The differential always looks to the first in the set upon which to build the new image. This means that if a lot changes then each differential is going to be relatively large. The advantage is that only the first image and the differential you wish to restore to are needed.

2/ Incremental backups build on each previous incremental in the set. This means that if a lot changes, only the following incremental would be large to reflect that and all others subsequently run will be small. The disadvantage is that ALL backups in the chain are needed up to and including the incremental you wish to restore from.

Fwiw, I usually run incremental (using AOMEI) and have never experienced any issues with restores.

It's a matter of preference, but they are not the same.

Differential backs up all differences from the last FULL backup. To restore, you need one differential and the full backup.

Incremental backs up all differences from the last backup (Full or Incremental or Differential). To restore, you need all Incremental ones and the full backup.

I prefer Differential, since (and according to Macrium) it's more safe!

Got it. So if i want to run the scheduled backup of my system image everyday, then incremental is recommended? Thanks
