I question that has been bugging me. If I decide to upgrade to the Home version when they offer it at a discount do I have to uninstall the Free version or can I just install the Home version over it?

It's probably safest to uninstall first.

Thanks. However will my backup images from the Free version still work on the Home version?

Yes they will. You will want to create a new recovery disk/USB though.

    Hi,

Agreed even though they'll still work fine to restore images created with V6 or V7 though.

I always do that now when a new update comes out anyway.

and update the boot menu option. Takes so little time, not worth not doing it.

    Hi,

I do so every time. Quite often MR will recommend it in the change log if they deem it necessary. Nonetheless I do it anyhow.
It doesn't take long on UEFI systems. I let MR create an ISO, mount it and copy the content to my MR rescue usb sticks or backup drive.

    Cheers,

Not overkill Steph but not always necessary. The difficulty is spotting when it is needed so I do it with every update. It would be nice if the release notes mentioned it.
