Macrium Reflect v.7 paid versions: CBT (Changed Block Tracker) feature breaks OneDrive Files on Demand in Insider builds 17035 and 17040. Simple fix: disable CBT:
MR 7.1 free version suddenly started to give me problems. Takes few minutes to open, whichever option is chosen it just displays blank window for several minutes and at last try refused to make new rescue USB, after loooong wait it shows an error, unable to finish. Tried to uninstall it and install fresh one (downloaded it again) again but still same.
Got to do some more troubleshooting today. Tested whole system and no errors anywhere.
I just tried this program too see if it works. I created a image backup and then installed a driver that broke windows from booting up. With the flash recovery tool I was able to restore using Macrium and it restored everything they way I had it.
Hi,
MR takes a volume snapshot using MS's VSS engine and works from there. So, basically it "owns" the system while it's doing its job.
It's "shadow copying".
As a user Windows won't let you access certain folders and files, not even as an admin but the MR package has overrule rights and that's how it gets the job done.
Cheers,

Macrium Reflect runs elevated, using built-in admin credentials with full privileges. When you start creating an image, it will create a so called snapshot of each included disk. These snapshots store the current state of all included disks at the moment you started creating image.
Macrium then creates image based on these snapshots. You can continue browsing, watch videos, listen music, edit a Word document, whatever while Macrium creates the image. Any changes on documents, any files you create, save or modify after image creation was started will not be included in the image because image will be created based on snapshots, not on running Windows system.
EDIT:
@fdegrove was faster :)
Thanks. I might want to purchase the home version however none of the coupon codes I find googling online work to get a discount. Still might be worth it for $70 for one user.
