When my S&S died last year, I took the advice of many here and did a (quick: maybe 10mins all told) in-place upgrade (instructions here, thanks to @Brink). Fixed not only my S&S but several other slightly annoying issues I hadn't bothered with.
    Easy peasy.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
That was to be my next recommendation.

Following step 1; How to make it save as jpeg instead of pngs? I think this would take a registry edit and if so, I'd like to know what to change, thanks.

Thanks for that, is there anyway offline way to batch convert them? Or do I have to go through 100 plus png files 1 by 1?

XnView (free) can do that. Batch rename and batch convert.
Scroll down a little bit and get the minimal version...

The Best Windows Photo Viewer, Image Resizer and Batch Converter . XnView

It's under Tools > Batch Processing...
