I apologize for resurrecting an older thread. I am just now learning to take screenshots, as I've never had a need before.

The issue I'm having, is with Option one in the tutorial. Win key + PrtScn, as I am wanting to take full screen desktop shots.

Again, I'm just starting to learn. And would appreciate advice.

When pressing the two keys together, it will work, but only about 20% of the time. The rest, it either throws up the Start Menu, or highlights one of my shortcuts. I find myself repeatedly having to delete the shot and try again, over and over. Then it will finally take a clean shot.

Could it be a bad keyboard? although old, it's well maintained, plus, I've never used those keys before, so they can't be worn out, logically.

Any advice or suggestions, would be greatly appreciated.

Here are a couple of shots I was finally successful in taking yesterday, and last night.

I apologise for being to slow to respond.
There's no need to apologise for posting in a tutorial thread. It's only an old one because there hasn't been a need to amend it.

It sounds like you are pressing the WinKey quickly but are being slow to press the PrntScrn key.
This might be caused by muck underneath the PrntScrn key. Perhaps you can blow underneath it, brush underneath it, get a vacuum cleaner right up against its side gaps or even lever off the key to clean underneath it [but that is a risk so shouldn't be done unless there's no other option].
    - I've recently had to replace the keyboards on two computers that had misbehaving keys that could not be fixed. One was a five minute job [twelve year old Dell Inspiron]. One was a five hour job [five year old Dell Inspiron].
    - For most of their computers, Dell produce service guides with decent instructions for replacing parts. Go to your model's Drivers & downloads page and look for the link to documentation.

As a workaround, you could use the Snipping tool because that can be set to capture the whole screen.

    Best of luck,
    Denis

Added later - As kado points out below, it might equally well be the WinKey misbehaving.

The start menu is triggered when the win key is released without another key being pressed so it could be a dodgy Win key releasing early before you press the PrtScr key.

For Denis and Keith, and to the benefit of any other 'newb' who may stumble upon this later...

First, thank you to Denis and Keith for responding to my question.

Now for the funny part, (at my own expense), I thought I had to hold both the win key + the prtscn key simultaneously, exactly at the same time. Thus the failure most of the time.

Finally, I discovered to press and hold the Win key, then press the PrtSrn key. Works perfectly every time.

As suspected, keyboard is fine, and as also stated, it was operator error. lol

Yes, I know, ignorance. But hey, at least I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Hope you two fellows, get a chuckle out of it.

And thanks again for offering to help me

Never be afraid to ask "stupid" questions. If you don't ask you will never learn.

It's just that my exactly is not very exact so I don't get a problem.

    All the best,

    Um, I just tried to take SS, like I always do, win+shift+s;
But it's no longer bringing up the Snip & sketch widget.
Sigh, fcking Win10. Please, does anyone know how to sort this???

    Thank-you very much.

I had a segfault error (green screen) just before went to bed, never left that screen after counting up to 100%, so had no choice but to press the power button, then it seemed to restart normally.

Left it all & came back to it in the morn, still having a bunch of issues after everything fully loaded, so I restarted once more, fixed everything else, but this is now a problem, clean install is not an option.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it. It is a store app.

    Tried terminating &then a reset - nothing.
    Will try to uninstall/reinstall soon...

    weird thing....

In the app store it shows as installed, hence can "open", but below that was also "get".
I just clicked that & it did something, well, "get" has gone anyway...
And in the Store Library, it shows that Snip & Sketch was "modified minutes ago".

Maybe it was just an update...

Well, if it was an update, hasn't resolved anything...

ugh, shouldn't have to do this but like everything in win, will try rebooting - once again.
And hope that it just starts to inexplicably work again. First I'll uninstall S&S.

When my S&S died last year, I took the advice of many here and did a (quick: maybe 10mins all told) in-place upgrade (instructions here, thanks to @Brink). Fixed not only my S&S but several other slightly annoying issues I hadn't bothered with.
    Easy peasy.

Except it probably won't end up taking that long, & there's a good chance things will get totally borked.
Sigh, I will do that tomorrow, maybe. 11:30pm now & I've LOTS of work to do, can't be troubleshooting.
I think you missed the link to those instructions?? Though I do have a good idea of how to approach it.
(N.P I'm on RP channel, which for now, is still -mainly- for W10 builds) Thank again, everyone.

Update: reinstalled after rebooting but it's fixed nothing.
