How to Turn On or Off Showing Notifications in Action Center in Windows 10
The Action Center in Windows 10 collects and shows notifications and alerts from traditional Windows applications and system notifications, alongside those generated from modern apps. Notifications are then grouped in the Action Center by app and time. When the Action Center gets a new notification, it will briefly show a notification banner above the taskbar notification area to let you know.
This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off showing notifications in action center from specific apps and senders for your account in Windows 10.
This will not affect showing notification banners above the taskbar notification area.
EXAMPLE: "Alarms & Clock" Notification in Action Center
Here's How:
1 Open Settings, and click/tap on the System icon.
2 Click/tap on Notifications & actions on the left side, and click/tap on the app or sender (ex: Alarms & Clock) under Get notifications from these senders on the right side. (see screenshot below)
If the listed apps and senders under Get notifications from these senders are grayed out, then you have notifications completely turned off.
You will only see apps and senders listed that you had already gotten notifications from.
3 Check (on - default) or uncheck (off) Show notifications in action center for what you want. (see screenshot below)
If the settings are grayed out, then you have notifications turned off for this app/sender.
4 When finished, you can close Settings if you like.

What are Notifications?
G'day,
Query Notifications.
Is a Notification an indication that an Update or similar is waiting to be (down)loaded?
OR. Is a Notification an indication that an Update or similar is in the process of being (down)loaded?
Was unable to find any info on this in "Tutorials".

Thank you for your info.
I am not so concerned about where it comes from.
Am concerned about the purpose of "Notifications" itself ie does it advise that something is waiting or does it advise that something is in progress?
If it is something waiting then perhaps I can delay allowing it to load or can block/cancel it altogether if I do not want it.

Notifications are just that, basically a message from the sender/app about whatever. It just depends on the sender/app for what the notification could be for.
Some examples:
It could be a notification about a new email from the "Mail" app.
It could be a notification from Windows Update letting you know a restart is needed to finish installing an update.
etc...
Sure, you could completely turn off notifications, turn off notifications for only specific senders/apps, and/or turn on and use "Focus Assist" to help manage notifications.

Notifications and download sizes

Thank you both for your help, much appreciated.
Ref. Notifications. Think these appear to be a switch to allowing incoming stuff.
Ref. Incoming data sizes and volumes.
Took your advice and searched for Data Monitors, preferably Free.
Found "Net Traffic", freeware, which has been downloaded and being tested on a mobile broadband connected notebook. Pretty easy to set up and use and seems good so far.
There are many which advertise as Free but are only free for a Trial, usually 30 days.
Will try one or two other Frees and a Trial/Buy which I will try over the next little while and let you know my opinions.

Probably just me but did anyone else stop getting notifications from Windows Update after the v1809 upgrade? I used to get a notification from Windows Security daily and all the other updates as they became available. Now I have to remember to check for updates which is ok because I have them set to not download in gpedit. I have checked all the notification settings and they work on everything else except Windows Update.
