    Niv,

    Just to verify:

Do you have 64-bit Windows 10?

Did you download and merge the .reg file today from step 4 in OPTION ONE? It was updated yesterday.

Did you get any error message while merging the .reg file?

The only way that I could reproduce what you posted is if I didn't do steps 1 and 2 for also the other (Do for 64-bit Windows 10) set of keys.

For me, the tutorial works without the issue you showed in your screenshots after both sets of keys have been fully taken ownership (change owner and permission) of.

    64-Bit Windows 10 pro.
Did steps 1-2 4 times now (4 clean installs in total)
Merged the .reg file today without any error messages after taking ownership, permissions set.

All keys are changed, and that includes the 64-bit Windows 10 only.
As I said, I double checked every single key that is in the regfile manually, and everything is set as it should.
    Including owner,permission.

That is what infuriates me, there is no errors anywhere and everything is changed as it should be.

It behaves very strange however. I open This PC, no folders there. I click on Desktop/Download, then click on This PC.
Most times the folder is there then, sometimes not.
If I F5 or click into lets say C, then back the folders are there and stays there for some time before its gone.
I can F5 spam and the folder can disappear and reappear randomly.

I have done this with everything else like network, libraries etc plenty of times and never had any problems with ownership, permissions etc. (Including the W10 versions to remove network etc works without any problems)

    Niv,

I'm not sure what else to suggest since it works for me and you have double checked all the keys and their owner and permission is set properly.

If you like, you can unpin the folders in Quick access and your Start list to stop them from opening in This PC.

However, this has only happened for me if there were any keys that didn't get the owner and permissions changed. I'm not sure why it's not working for you otherwise.

I might be able to get used to not using them and bypassing it that way.
But it got so infuriating that I installed Win 8.1 and back to everything working perfect.
Including my Desktop,Download favorites by just running the .regfile without doing anything else :)

Gonna stay on 8.1 for a while and give W10 a try later down the road.
Thanks for your help trying to get it to work though :)

I'm seeing the same thing. I have my Documents/Downloads, etc. folders in the Quick Links. If I click on those, then go back to 'This PC', the folder I just used in Quick Links now shows up in 'This PC'.

Sometimes. It's hit and miss. Then later they go away. It's kind of odd.

But at least they never show up in the left panel under 'This PC'.

same thing, if you go to downloads and go back the file path , downloads folder shows back in the explorer, until you close the window

I see an error message pop up for each key you attempt to make ownership changes with but it didn't stop the download from doing the job here any! See for yourself! Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10-folder-clutter-removed.jpg

But that is not the problem, also I had no error messages.

The problem appears when you press download for example under Quick access, you don't have it there :)
To just remove it from view you don't even need the regedit changes. Regfile is sufficient.
