Windows 10: This PC 'Folders' - Add or Remove in Windows 10
The pop up error message won't stop the permission change being made. In fact in when going to close each permissions window I simply clicked the cancel button and the change of ownership was still seen. The reg file however simplifies thing by getting it done in one right click to merge.
I finally found a solution for this problem!!
Doing what is said here is not enough in W10 to get it working 100%
There is a new key in W10 that need to be changed.
"Now in Windows 10, Microsoft is using a new string "ThisPCPolicy" in Registry to show or hide items in "This PC" window. If the string value is set to "Show", that particular item is shown in "This PC" window and if the string value is set to "Hide", that item is not shown in "This PC" window. So we just need to change the value of "ThisPCPolicy" to "Hide" for all 6 folders CLSID in Registry and they will immediately disappear from "This PC" window."
Doing this in regedit makes it work flawless, for others that struggle getting this to work, this is 100% working.

Thank you Niv.
The tutorial has been updated for this method instead. I can't believe it was that easy. Gotta love the changes in Windows 10.
The downloads still work for people who aren't registry hacks however! With the manual method you have to dig a little scrolling a ton of other items typical of the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" branch there as compared to tweaks done in the Local_Machine for example. It's still a relief seeing all those folders gone from view however in order to be able to find your drives!
While this method is most likely the correct method for hiding the folders from "This PC", you still need to do the unpin fix to keep them off the navigation pane in ALL cases.
.ie Click on one of the user folders that you can enable at the bottom-left in the start menu, or right click explorer in the taskbar and select a user folder. Both of these cases will result in explorer launching with that folder temporarily pinned to "This PC" until you close that instance of explorer.
True, but it's almost a pick your poison situation. At least with the option in the tutorial now you don't have to dig around the registry.
That last powershell script posted by cybersaga to give the persmissions worked for me. I tested it on a fresh install. No hand fiddling with the registry needed.
On the second clean install of 10 I simply ran the download with a fast double clip and called it a day without any registry involvements or scripts. That's how easy it was here after first working with each of the six values in the HKey_Class_Roots branch of the registry there. Trying to take ownership over the permissions continually saw popup error messages despite the one shot deal with the download when simply going to try that.
The remove script works just fine but when i try to restore all the folders they won't appear on explorer.
I notice that if i click on "This-PC" sometimes Videos or Pictures appear only, sometimes Documents or Downloads, etc but they all dissapear when i close explorer.
Anyone noticed this?
Hello s0urce, and welcome to Ten Forums.
Did you use the old .reg files to remove them before the tutorial had been recently updated, or did you use the recent .reg files now?
Are you using the correct 32-bit or 64-bit .reg file from step 2 in OPTION TWO to restore the folders in This PC?
