Here's an updated script. I verified that the permissions in the registry do, in fact, change, and the .reg file completes with no errors.

Again, rename to .ps1 and run PowerShell as an Administrator.

    setpermissions.txt

For those who didn't see my last post, you may have to run this command manually before PowerShell will let you run this (or any) script:
    Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
I had modified a few keys manually before I wrote the script, so I think that skewed my results earlier.

My "This PC" folders came back today after updates. So is there a way to keep them gone, or must one run the Remove_All_user_Folders_in_This_PC.reg regularly? Like at Startup?

Sometimes it's not unusual for a Windows Update to reset items back to default.

In this case, all you would need to do is merge the .reg file once more again. :)

Is it possible to have Desktop and Downloads in quick access but not have them appear everywhere else.
In windows 8.1 I removed the folders using the "http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/28025-pc-add-remove-folders-windows-8-1-a.html"

And they are removed where the arrows point, under My PC.
But I could still have desktop, download in Quick Access/favorites without them ever appearing there.

However in Win10 I cannot get it to work.
They are removed from both, but when I press Desktop or Download in ´Quick Access they appear here again and I have to close Explorer and wait for them to be removed again. And appear once I press the icons again.

This was not in Win 8.1 when removed.

This is how it is when open, removed like it should be:
Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10-ba32b06c94.png

And once clicked on either It gets like this:
Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10-b47ae93652.png

I tried this on 2 computers now with fresh installs.
Ran the regfile after ownership without problems, doublechecked that everything is changed in regedit. Does not matter.
Also, the Win 8.1 reg file to remove them works just as well in w10, there is no difference how it behave with the folders (just removes them from view)
The W10 regfile also works the same no matter if ownership is taken or not. Removes them the same way.

Really annoying since I use Desktop and Download folder all the time in win 8.1 and the Folders never appear in My PC there.

    Hello Niv,

Double check that you used the correct 32-bit or 64-bit version of the .reg file from step 4 in OPTION ONE, then see if restarting the PC may help. :)

Yeah 64-bit used, and tried several times and methods (editing the files myself as well)
Still not sure what the ownership is needed for since the regfile does the same thing with or without ownership taken.

Make sure that you do steps 1 and 2, and merge the .reg file again to no longer have the issue you are having.

As I said I done that.
4th clean W10 install and the behavior is still the same.

They are gone, until you click on Desktop/Downloads that I need in Quick Access, then they appear in Folders again. Until you close This PC and wait. Then they are gone again.

    Giving up now.

And again the regfile does the same thing with or without doing any permission, ownership changes.

This is just annoying compared to w7 and w8.1.

Without changing the owner and permissions of the keys in steps 1 and 2, the .reg files will not be able to fully merge, and those keys will not be changed. Those keys are responsible for the folders showing in the navigation pane if you open the folder pinned to Quick access or Start list.

    Okey.
Does not change the fact though that all the keys are changed (just did another manual check on all the keys that are in the regfile. Everything is changed, and still it behaves like it does
