Actually scratch that. I reverted the permissions on one of my keys to test it out again for sure. Everything seems to work out when running the script, but a quick check in the registry shows it's still blocked by TrustedInstaller.

I had done some digging myself last night for a solution in powershell for this. A few leads came close, but nothing actually worked when used against TrustedInstaller. Oh well, manually doing it is really not that bad if you know what you are doing.

What do you mean by "blocked"? Did you look up the keys in regedit and the owner is still TrustedInstaller?

yes, and it's still the only one with full control access.

OK. I saw that on mine too. I did a few of them manually before deciding to script it. I guess that was enough to do the trick since the folders were gone.

I made some changes, but it's still choking on one of them. I don't know why that one is different, but whatever. I'll figure it out tonight or tomorrow.

I don't know why Microsoft makes this such a nightmare. The .reg file seems to have worked, but I am still getting this error dialog when I use it.

And yes, I did the following.

    1. If you have not already, you will need to first change the owner of the registry keys below one at a time for the folder(s) you want to remove to be the Administrators group.

    2. If you have not already, you will need to second set permissions of the registry keys below one at a time for the folder(s) you want to remove to "Allow" the Administrators group "Full control".

Hello Megalith, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

For now, please double check each key to see if you may have missed one. It wouldn't be hard to do.
