A new twist to problem. Went to work and my computer, which has the same version and build, there has the same problem. However I can change a file name but not a folder name. Haven't tried this on original computer til tonight. Does that give any clue on what is causing my problem?

Just to verify, is this happening with all folders from anywhere or only folders from a specific location?

Was able to rename files in different folders but could not rename any folders except Scanned Documents folder in my Documents directory. Any other folder in that directory would not allow a name change.

Ok, good. Since this is only happening in a specific directory, it sounds like it may be some sort of permissions issue or something is protecting the folders preventing them from being modified (renamed).

Is this "Documents" directory located at the default "C:\Users\<user name>\Documents" location, or some other location?

If you like, you could try adding and using the "Take ownership" context menu below on the affected folders to see if that may allow you to rename them afterwards.

If that fails, you could try using Unlocker on the folder.

It is only folders in all directories.
Yes, Documents is under my User name directory and have it linked to Libraries.
Took Ownership and still unable to change folder name, but can on files.
Tried to download Unlocker and it said thank you but no file on my computer. It did give me another page that said I was at the wrong page (404).

I'm not sure what else to suggest either other than a clean install since a repair install was unable to fix it.

Ugh, too much work. Found another way. Acronis backup of a good laptop put on the bad laptop and changed computer and user names. Lot shorter time and effort. Now with the desktop I could put another good computer on it but so far I have no problem with file name changes unless I put a new folder on it and try to change the name. All existing folders and files names can be changed. Maybe someone will come up with a solution, probably when it affects their computer.

Still can't figure out how it happened. Can't be an update since all five of my computers get the same updates weekly. I think it was my messing with the registry to eliminate the redundant folders in My PC using your and other's old reg files from years back. Your new ones work just fine. Thank you for your time and effort.

I came here because I got an email notification there was a reply, but my previous post seems to have disappeared...? I have edited email and PM permissions in case that was interfering with an attempt to contact me.

This tutorial did not seem to work to remove and restore the Pictures folder on my computer. I'm having this problem: Quick Access not searching Pictures folder - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums

Please note, I have tried all the suggestions currently posted in that thread, including indexing options, folder properties >> advanced attributes, indexing and then moving files around and re-indexing, pinning and unpinning, restoring QA shortcuts.

    I have version 1803.

    Hello @enso,

This tutorial would only affect the "Pictures" folder shown in "This PC" instead like in the example screenshot at the top of the tutorial. It will have no effect on the index.

Is this what you wanted, and it didn't do it for you?
