Hello wea0, and welcome to Ten Forums.

This tutorial does indeed work best when not having "Show all folders" turned on in the navigation pane.

Messing with the "NameSpace" location in the registry will break the folders on the Start list (if added).

Start List - Add or Remove Folders in Windows 10

You could try doing a system restore using a restore point dated before the last change you made before you had this issue.

I just want to report the following:
I tried removing all folders from This PC and it didn't work, not after multiple reboots, neither after restarting Explorer from the Task Manager and reapplying the same .reg file in between. So I decided to check one of the registry keys (thank MS for ‘regjump -c’) if it was actually changed upon application of the .reg file: it was still set to ‘Show’....... With the registry editor open I again applied the .reg file and immediately I saw the key value change. Restarted explorer.exe and it finally works!

So, why would this happen? Did I just get lucky the last time, or unlucky on the first tries? The only difference was having regedit open, so maybe that allowed the .reg file to change keys?

Thanks for your ever awesome tutorials, Brink! I've been using them since Windows 7.

    Hello EDP,

I'm not sure why it may not have worked for you the first few times unless something was not allowing the .reg files to fully merge.

downloading so many bat files is not convenient.

Please "ALSO" give a single zip of all batch files, for easy download and storing.

    Thanks.

    Hello vsrawat,

If you like, you could just use step 2 in OPTION ONE to remove them all at once instead.

didn't work for me on w10-64 bit.

I downloaded all batch files, and first ran "64-bit_Remove_All_user_Folders_in_This_PC.reg"
    It confirmed successfully added.
I ran task manager and restarted windows explorer.
then I opened a windows explorer window, but all folders are still there.
Then, I restarted the pc, but all these folders are still there.

Then, I repeated entire above with only "video" folder removal, but that is still there.

so, it didn't work for me.

    Thanks.

I just tested this again in the latest 14328 build to see if any changes have been made, and it still works for me.

Do you have any 3rd party all-in-one tweaking type utility programs installed that could be overriding or resetting this?

When you merged the .reg file, did it get fully approved with all prompts?

If you're familiar with the registry, double check to make sure your registry entries match with what's in the .reg file to verify it was successfully merged.

    woah.

yes, I did it again, and now all those system folders are gone from windows explorer window.

I must have done something wrongly the previous time, so it didn't get done correctly.

    Thanks a gig.

    Great news vsrawat.

I would guess that the .reg may not have been fully approved to merge previously.

Good work Brink. My regedits in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace didn't work this time, but your reg fixes did. It was necessary to run both the 64 and 32 bit versions for it to work. I ran fixes in Administrator mode, which meant logging out as a right click on the reg fix does not allow you to run it as admin. Many thanks.
