    excerpt from the OP................

Although Lync requires an organisational account, the free Lync App available at the Windows Store can be used to join Lync / Skype for Business online meetings as a guest without a Lync Account, if the meeting organizer has allowed external guest attendees. This tutorial will show how to install the Lync App and join an online meeting as a guest.

Fellow geek and Ten Forums enthusiast @Cliff S made a publicly shared OneNote page about the meeting, all you have to know about next TenForums Saturday Live Chat: Cliffords Notebook - Microsoft OneNote Online

I will also post reminders of the meeting in Today thread on Friday and Saturday.

There are only two ways to participate in a Skype for Business meeting as a guest, anonymously (as our chats are): Either by using the Skype for Business Web App, which installs a small plugin in your browser, or the Lync App as told in this tutorial.

About useful or not: both the web app plugin and Lync App have almost the same interface. Both need to installed. The web plugin can be used in any version of Windows, any browser, whereas the Lync UWP App (Universal Windows Platform) can only be used in Windows 8.1 and 10.

You can of course join our meetings and events using Skype for Business or Lync desktop client with a workplace organisational account but that reveals some personal information to other participants (for example you can't hide your email, it will be shown to anyone checking your contact card).

Using the Lync App you can sign in normally to your organisational Skype for Business account, then sign out from it and sign in anonymously to our meetings. This is not possible using the Skype for Business desktop client (Office 2016) or Lync client (Office 2013 and older). In that sense Lync App is usefulk for those who use Skype for Business at work but want to have an option to sign in general Skype meetings and events anonymously.
