Just to verify, what does it show when you open WD using the shorcut below?

Editing the registry hasn't worked; gpedit doesn't work as it tells me I don't have a group policy.
I have Bitdefender installed and yet Windows Defender is still active.
    Anyone any other ideas?

Hello @Verora, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Did you sign out and sign in to apply the registry changes? Did you also do step 7 in Option Two to hide the WD icon?

You might also check to see if you may have Windows Defender periodic scanning turned on.

Yes I restarted after the registry changes.
There is no Step 7 on Option 2 although I don't see how hiding an icon has any effect on the functionality operating or not.
Periodic Scanning is not an option given to me and I have followed the link you gave.
Windows Defender options are still on; cannot be turned off because they automatically come on when I turn them off.
Why does MS make it so difficult to turn off an application? What could possibly be the reason for not providing/allowing a simple uninstall of a Windows feature that isn't wanted?

    Perhaps you need to reboot.

When I turned off Windows defender, I had to do that. Try Option 2 here, it works great. Thats what I did to turn off WD completely, not only the real time part of it. I dont use scanners so used this REG file to turn off WD.

I was referring to step 7 in Option Two below from the first page in this tutorial. I only mentioned it in case you may have thought that seeing the "Windows Defender Security Center" icon meant that Windows Defender was still turned on (enabled). It doesn't.

Your screenshots indicate that Windows Defender is currently turned off. When WD is turned off, it doesn't matter what the other settings are on or off since the WD is off.

The "Windows Defender Security Center" is still showing that "Your device is being protected" since you have Bitdefender installed and running.

    Hey @reddwarf4ever, :)

If you like, you can download and merge the .reg file below to add "Pin to Start" for most files.

    PinToStart.reg

Afterwards, save the .reg file from the tutorial to where you want, and create a shortcut of it. When you right click on the shortcut of the .reg file, you should now see a "Pin to Start" options.
