    Great tutorial, @Brink!
wuauserv was not any longer in the services list. Was trying to fix the problem (for hours) with sfc and DISM, but not success... With the help of your wuauserv reg file I could resolve the issue within one minute. Thanks a million. With best regards from Switzerland

Hi, having run out of good ideas to try to fix 'Unexpected Device Error' when casting a mp3 file to my TV from 1 laptop, I thought I'd try using several reg files for relevant services- 7.
    Connected Devices Plaform...
    DHCP-Client
    Distributed Transaction Coordinator
    Function Discovery Resource Publication
    Network Connected Devices...
    Network List Service
    RPC Endpoint Mapper

    Result: 1 unbootable PC.

Fortunately I had set a restore point before doing so.
@Brink - is this an expected risk? Thanks!

Also found Remote Procedure Call (RPC) could not be merged. (Maybe needs to be in Safe Mode).

I have NOT read the whole post but I thought that I would try and help in response to dalchina's post above with what I have with regard to Services.

I cast [ Stream ] from my computer [ Wi-Fi to Google Chromecast Wireless Adapter ] things like films, music, TV channels etc.

Apologies if this post is nonsense but I am quite poorly at the moment.

    Anyway, here are mine . . .

    Code:

Connected Devices Plaform Service - Automatic (Delayed Start) / Running
Connected Devices Platform User Service_a9fed - Automatic / Running
    DHCP-Client - Automatic / Running
Distributed Transaction Coordinator - Manual / Stopped
Function Discovery Provider Host - Automatic / Running
Function Discovery Resource Publication - Automatic / Running
Network Connected Devices Auto-Setup - Manual / Running
Network Connection Broker - Manual / Running
Network Connections - Manual / Stopped
Network Connectivity Assistant - Manual / Stopped
Network List Service - Manual / Running
RPC Endpoint Mapper - Automatic / Running

    I hope this helps.

Hi Paul, like you..not well.. slowly recovering from a bad cold...

I'd checked services for 'Cast' as listed in various guides.. now what's already interesting is that I don't have the second service you show present on the PC that won't cast- but do on the other.. the others look ok.

The missing service isn't one I've seen in the guides I've seen.

This looks interesting... thanks.. the problem is that in the services.msc list
    Connected Devices Platform Service
    is followed immediately by
    Connected User Experiences....

i.e. there's no user version of Connected Devices Platform Service.

I've compared the registry for both PCs for this service from
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDPSvc

and both seem identical (bar user-specific id's).

I'm missing a service... and at present have no idea how to reinstate it...

    Given
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDPSvc

and following seem ok, how do I get the 3rd service you show above to run - that's missing... somewhere else in the registry?

This seems the same - bar the user string- for both:

I'm looking at this in the hope of some idea:

It shouldn't since the REG files only restore them to their defaults.
