So, now apparently, with Enterprise, keys are no longer working, you need live VL keys for non MKS installs, and you need an updated KMS key with your KMS server patched in order to activate.

    Is this correct, Brink?

A small argument has been brought up on the Microsoft TechNet Social forums about whether your info here is correct or not - and neither side wants to consider that Microsoft has changed things since your info was published :)
    Hello John,

The last I heard and what the failed activation details say was that Microsoft had blocked the insider preview keys for now since they wanted to test activation via upgrade instead of a clean install.

I don't know if it has changed since, but the Enterprise installation I have will still not activate with the key on the first page.

    Hi there

It seems now that if you want to use Enterprise you can only get activation from a corporate KMS activation / Licence.

This doesn't actually square with what Ms were offering initially where Enterprise WOULD be offered to individuals.

The main (and perhaps the ONLY reason) as an individual why I would want Enterprise is for the very useful Windows to Go facility.

However with an SSD connected to a USB 3 port via SATA-->USB3 connection booting up a Linux distro with a full W10 Pro VM gives almost as good response as a native installation - perhaps I can do without Enterprise.

For Testers though I'm sure Ms will have to relax that restriction.

    Cheers

I'm actually testing Enterprise for the company I work for, along with Office 2016, and I plan on deploying the new Win10 based Server as well as Exchange Server in XenCenter-based VMs on a pretty decent server we have here.

Oh, yeah, lol, BTW, Brink, I'm employed full-time as of last Sept - only took 14 months after graduating with my Masters lol!

Anyhoo, Win10 has come a long way, and the current laptop that I am testing it on, a Lenovo ThinkPad E550 (Core i7-based machine - pretty decent for an enterprise-class machine) already has a slew of drivers for it, and the Lenovo System Update app is now Win10 ready as well.

But....It is still a bit buggy - and the fact that (currently, of course) clean installs have to revert to the 10074 ISO is a major PITA....

I really despise the idea of .ESD upgrades for enterprise...not really that fond of it at home either, although my (now getting ancient) Beast Mark V is doing rather well with Win 10 TP (non enterprise).

Yep Shawn I am now getting a message to say activate and a string that look s like this *****-HQTKL or something like that and it is also telling me to get that code off the box I bought the 10 in but it is only a preview ISO -I did not buy anything and still stuck on 10074 build.

My desktop is fine and is activated using one of the codes they sent for Pro but this laptop I am now into day three of trying to get it going and frankly I ma on the cusp of giving up and swapping my 7 back in because this the laptop I work from a great deal.

Just one last thing I can login on my Microsoft account on all machines using the password but this one is just not playing as at least I could send a message to someone re the problem as a couple of hours on the Microsoft phone yesterday line has got me absolutely nowhere and I wonder if the operators even know what they are talking about as one gets shoved from one person or number to another.

Am beginning to think Microsoft is slowly losing the plot as the versions that have come out ie XP and & have been the only ones that have been easy to use or work in any sense and besides after spending some considerable amount of money on their products - like I suppose a lot of other people have it is a poor show to say the least.

    Hey John,

I'd say wait until tomorrow to see how it goes since all the preview keys have been blocked for activation.

Currently, 10 will be activated if you upgrade from an activated Windows 7 or 8.

I am still unable to activate Windows 10 after clean install so contacted Microsoft support here in the UK for assistance.

The reply I got was quite surprising "Microsoft does not recommend a clean install, we only recommend updating from your original Windows version as this must be present to activate 10"

So I have done a clean install, I am unable to activate Windows 10, so I seem to have two choices; buy Windows 10 or revert to Windows 7.
