Hello Bagavan,
Yep, "usually", but not always.
Try changing your product key number using the key for that build number. :)
Hey Shawn,
Thanks for your response.
My story is similar to bagavan's - I had a computer running 8.1 (not Pro), activated, and then used the 10162 ISO from Microsoft. I ran setup.exe from within 8.1, and it ended up with the Home version of 10 Preview, which makes sense as it corresponds to the eventual upgrade paths from 8.1.
But it didn't activate.
I then tried this key which you mentioned in another thread - the computer seemed to accept the key as valid, but still wouldn't activate.
I'm doing other things for the weekend now, so hoping there's something at Microsoft's end which they can fix by Monday.
Ah, ok. It sounds like it auto detected the 8.1 Home key and used that to install 10 Home instead of Pro.
Yeah - it was my intention to try that out to see if it would do exactly that.
I had similar problems with 10159 in a different install in a VM though - that wouldn't activate either (and that was Pro). I'm wondering how widespread this is - I didn't get a message about Activation not failing, but only discovered it because I went looking to check the status.
I saw this error code Error code: 0xC004F034
License not found or invalid. What should I do now?
I again re entered the key then the error code was blank
