    Bagavan,

Since you have already changed to the correct product key, see if the command below may activate for you.

    slmgr.vbs /ato

In that case keep trying off and on for the next few days in case it's an issue with Microsoft's activation server.

Should I go back to 8.1 and then upgrade to the final version to avoid this activation issue?

I'd at least give it a few days to see if it may activate by then.

I get the same error. It's on a VM (rather than the Windows 8.1 machine I mentioned earlier) and it was installed from one of the earlier ISOs, then I used the 10162 Official ISO and ran setup.exe within Windows.

For my 2 attempts, the common factor is that (because I have a metered connection) I've been downloading the official 10162 ISO and running setup.exe from within an earlier version of Windows (10 or 8.1), rather than running from Windows Update, at which point it seems to 'lose' the activation status and even putting in the new product keys won't fix it.

Could there be a problem with that upgrade route?

Although most of those 14 pages aren't very useful!

For anyone who like me is curious, the post saying it's a server problem is on Page 6

    Thanks for reporting this!

We believe this is caused by a known server-side issue which is being looked at. After the issue is resolved and the server-side component is brought back up, the 'Connect to Internet to activate' should automatically (and permanently for this build) change to 'Activated'.

Please check back the status of this dialog in a couple of days.

    Hi Shawn,
Any tips on getting this to work...? I'm struggling with 10162 and couldn't get 10159 to activate either.

Using Option 2 and the latest key from the 10162 thread, I get the same message saying the key has been installed sucessfully, but it still won't activate. Using a verified MSA...

    Thanks
I had the same problem, I did the upgrade in windows update from 10130 to 10162 and no matter what I did it would not activate. So I downloaded the 10162 iso file from the insider page then I opened the iso and selected setup.exe and when the upgrade was finished it was activated!! I hope this helps.
