I'm not using the script... simply file explorer...

I.e. the number possibly changes over time.

    On this PC:

    On my other it's 125.

    Same files in the folders?

No.. because different programs are installed... the folder has many more entries on the other PC as more progs installed.

But in both cases that's the only such folder as per screenshot, and deleting the LibreOffice entries had the same effect (bar the oddity I mentioned above which was incidental).

These installations are both 5+ years old...

Well, I don't see any point including the search icon cache since the "100" folder will vary.

May have it just delete everything in the "AppIconCache" folder instead so it won't matter.

    EDIT:

Updated to use this command below so it won't matter the name of the folders in "AppIconCache".

    del /F /S /Q "%localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\localstate\AppIconCache\*.*"

where xxx appears to be >= 100
Just for info. That path is detected in winapp2.ini under Windows Store> Windows Search regardless of the numbering.

Now it has hit me too... suddenly apps have the default icon for graphics files (the mountain with sun/moon) as their icon, but only when they are listed in the search.
It affects around 30 apps, almost all of which are Windows default apps.

I then carried out "Option Two" of this tutorial (btw... thank you!).
The icons under "Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\AppIconCache\100" were then recreated, but also wrong, which I have also confirmed by renaming (the icon) and then opening the jpg file.
I then created a new user - the icons were created and displayed correctly.
Interestingly, a lot of the icons of the new user were created larger (96x96px) then those of the user with the defect ones (64x64px).
Only the icons that are created incorrectly (in the old user account) were created significantly smaller (44x44px, but otherwise fine) for the new user.

What else can one try in such a case?
How do such problems occur in the first place?
I will now, for a test, take over the icon for the calculator from the new user and see if it stays.
Somewhat OT: Are the commands of "ie4uinit.exe" documented somewhere?

    Many thanks for any help!
    Greetings, Martin

If I use taskbar search to search for apps, I either get a white icon like this:
Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10-untitled.png

or the correct one e.g. for Films & TV.

However, if I use Open Shell to either view all apps:
Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10-untitled-2.png

    or search for them:
Rebuild Icon Cache in Windows 10-untitled-3.png

all is fine. Compare that with the first screenshot.

This is only true for UWP apps, not 3rd party 'desktop' progs.
Seems the way that Windows own cache builds these is- well- inconsistent.

    Once again- 3rd party wins!

Update: opened Store, updated the few apps listed with updates available, and (probably) all white icons are now correctly shown by taskbar search.

This has been happening to both of my windows 10 Desktops too. Did deleting the Icon Cache fix it for you?
