Bingo. Only corrupted for the list and details view. Other sizes show correctly.

And it follows that when running the bat script the access denied message was for

    • iconcache_32.db
    • iconcache_idx.db

32px is the size for list and details, no?

It would be 16px for list and details. They use the same as small icons.

You may have a corrupted file that holds the icons for them. You might see if running a SFC /SCANNOW command may help afterwards.

I figured it out, it was custom scaling that someone else had applied. When I reverted to the recommended 125% (running on a 2560x1440 screen), the icons came back.

    Thx for your help.

Hello, this method does not seem to work for the displayed icons on the Start Menu programs list, I've tried several times and it stills shows old icons, I think these icons are cached in another way, do you perchance know how to refresh them?

    Talking about these:

Hello hachiroku, and welcome to Ten Forums.

That's correct. This won't work for the Start menu. However, I don't see anything wrong with the icons for the items in the screenshot you posted.

    Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, sorry I didn't explain better. The problem is that those icons are displaying the old program's association (HTML shortcut is from Firefox, but I now use Chromium, and PDFs are displaying an icon from Edge, but I'm using SumatraPDF).

Here's a screenshot to explain it better.

Sorry for the late reply @hachiroku.

If you like, you could delete the shortcuts you don't want at that location in File Explorer to remove them from your Start menu to only have "Revo Uninstaller" left.

If you wanted to keep them, then you might see if temporarily moving the shortcuts from
that location in File Explorer to another location (ex: desktop) to clear them from the Start menu, then move them back to see if that may refresh the icons shown in the Start menu.

Moving the folder away from the Start Menu folder and then back to it worked, thanks !
