    How to Turn On or Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In in Windows 10

    The Projecting to this PC feature uses the Connect app to allow you to wirelessly connect a Continuum enabled Windows Phone or another PC to your PC's screen, and use its keyboard, mouse, and other devices too.

    Starting with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14385, you can turn on or off to have your PC discoverable for projection only when it is plugged in.

    This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off Projecting to this PC only when plugged in for all users in Windows 10.


    CONTENTS:
    • Option One: To Turn On or Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In in Settings
    • Option Two: To Turn On or Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In using a REG file





    Turn On/Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In in Windows 10 OPTION ONE Turn On/Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In in Windows 10
    To Turn On or Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In in Settings

    1. Open Settings, and click/tap on the System icon.

    2. Click/tap on Projecting to this PC on the left side. (see screenshot below)

    3. Turn on or off (default) This PC can be discovered for projection only when it is plugged in on the right side for what you want. (see screenshot below)
    Note   Note
    This setting will be grayed out unless you turn on projecting to this PC first.


    4. You can now close Settings if you like.

    To Turn On or Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In using a REG file

    Note   Note
    You must be signed in as an administrator to be able to do this option.


    The .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MiracastReceiver

    EnabledOnACOnly DWORD

    0 = Off
    1 = On


    1. Do step 2 (first time) or step 3 (every time) below for what you would like to do.


     2. To Turn On Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In

    A) If you haven't already, you will first need to turn on projecting to this PC.

    B) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    ON-Project_to_this_PC_only_when_plugged_in.reg

    download


     3. To Turn Off Projecting to this PC Only when Plugged In

    NOTE: This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    OFF-Project_to_this_PC_only_when_plugged_in.reg

    download


    4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    6. If prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    7. If you like, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.

    Windows 10 Enterprise x64 (Insider)

    This obscure feature really had me going a few weeks ago, since when left alone, it creates a mysterious public network that you likely don't want. I leave it off now.
