    Hello Rose, :)

That's correct. When you link your desktop's digital license to your MSA, you will also be switching your local account to a MSA for signing in to Windows 10 with using the same credentials as your MSA.

If you like, you can set Windows to automatically sign in to your MSA at startup afterwards.

Hi, I've linked my Windows 10 Pro digital licence to my Microsoft account (I normally use the local account). If I was to carry out a major upgrade in future (motherboard, cpu etc), and I went through the activation troubleshooter and it activated successfully, would I always need to be constantly logged into my Microsoft account in future or can I go back to using the local account again?

    Hello Retro, :)

Yes, you could switch to a local account if you like afterwards.

Hello Brink, to that regard, my observations differ.

As I report in this forum elsewhere, I could not easily switch back to a local account after I had linked my Windows 10 Pro digital licence to my Microsoft account (MSA).

I cant see the option to link digital licence with microsoft account. I actually upgraded from a retail version of Windows 7 ultimate to Windows 8.1 by paying then to windows 10 pro.

Attaching the screenshot, there is no option to link to digital license to Microsoft account Link Microsoft Account to Windows 10 Digital License-cti.png

    Hello Joyous, :)

It looks like you have an older build of Windows 10 installed. The link option is not available until build 14371.

However, your screenshot indicates that your Windows is activated by digital entitlement, so it's basically already linked.
