    Hi Shawn @Brink,

From the first day I bought my laptop (Feb. 2016) and installed Windows, I have been using only a local account.

Today, I finally decided to link my Microsoft account to my digital license. Followed Option 1 of your tut, but I ended up with the following:

Link Microsoft Account to Windows 10 Digital License-e-mail-app-accounts.png

Link Microsoft Account to Windows 10 Digital License-activation.png

It's worth noting that the "Account used by other apps", was already there and thus I just added the "Email, calendar and contacts" account.

Sins i didn't get the link to my digital license, I deleted it (without touching "Account used by other apps") and tried again, with same outcome! i.e. NO "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account", so I guess my Microsoft account is not linked to the digital license.

    Any idea, what is wrong?

Before trying Option 2, to see if it works, can you please tell me if I would be able to go back to my "beloved" local account afterwards and if this will be the same local account I use now?

Otherwise, I know the path... Macrium image > play around > Restore!!!

    Hello Dimitri @ddelo,

It looks like you may need to use Option Two to link it with your MSA.

You will be able to switch back to a local account afterwards though.

    Hi Shawn,

Thanks a lot for your always, prompt and accurate answer!
As you said (and I suspected), it worked with Option 2.... but (there's always a but, with Windows! ) this is what I got.

    1. Signed in with my Microsoft account

    2. Signed in with my local account, which I enabled after finished with Option 2 of the tutorial

    Any ideas?

That's ok. The message in Settings only shows the current status of activation. Once you have linked the license to your MSA, you will be able to activate the PC with it if needed.

    Wowww, that was fast!!!

Just to verify that I understood it correctly.
Since the digital license is linked to my Microsoft account, if I want to activate it in another PC, or if I change motherboard in this one, I install and sign in with my Microsoft account, activate and then do whatever I want (i.e. use either Microsoft or Local account)

Thanks a lot mate! You're the best!

You would need to sign in with the Microsoft account that the license is linked to, but you may need to use the Activation troubleshooter to activate when you change the motherboard since that is considered a different computer.
