I'm not getting any error messages, the option simply isn't there...

Now I've foolishly switched my account from administraitor to regular user without checking if I had another administrator account to switch it back, so now I fear I'll probably have no other option than to do a clean install of windows and then transfer my old data...
Are you joined to a domain?

You can use option 5 below to enable the built-in Administrator account. Afterwards, sign in to the built-in Administrator account and change your account back to an administrator.

I have a problem because I misunderstood the jargon on the "sign in with a Local Account instead of a Microsoft Account" info (not this tutorial).

I understood it is possible to have a Microsoft User Account AND a Local User Account. So I completed the
procedure for signing on with a Local User Account. I was a bit surprised that I had to create a new account but did so.
Now I find that my Microsoft User Account has disappeared from the Control Panel. It has been replaced by the new Local User. Neither did I expect the new Local User Account would be given Admin Privileges. One of the reasons for the change was to avoid using an Administrator Account for day to day business.

Can you advise the best way forward please ?

Fortunately at present the data on the Microsoft Account is still present in its User Folder and has been backed up elsewhere. Can I simply copy this to the new User Account ?

I was expecting (hoping) to see the other User Accounts listed on the sign in page so I could switch to them if I wanted to but they are not there.

Not sure if I should have started a new thread but this seems relevant to the above tutorial.

    Hello,

If you currently have a local account, you can use the method below to switch it to a Microsoft account if wanted.

User Accounts Switch to Local Account in Windows.....

Thankyou for yr reply but I was hoping I could run both a Microsoft Standard User Account and an Admin Local User Account.

As it stands I have got myself into a mess. When I first opened the new account yestderday I was able to access my laptop but this morning it is refusing the password and I cannot access. I did access the onscreen keyboard and thought I had solved the problem. I must confess I had entered the password a couple of times incorrectly first but was able to try again following a restart.

Ithought I had succeeded when I got the Welcome message but almost immediately it reverted to rejection. At present I cannot access at all. Will I have to go via builtin administrator Please help. Messaging from mobile.

Tried again just now. Welcome screen briely only again.

You can certainly have two separate accounts if wanted.

It may be best to post a separate thread in the forum for this issue instead of here though.

Switch to Local Account in Windows 10-2021-10-14-10_17_06-greenshot.pngHi Brink. I'm trying to get my fat R7 to become less of a telemetry device and more of a gelded eunuch. I like to run basically old Photoshop (not online) and fractal generators (not online).
So I thought, 'What about creating a non-MS new account'. Thanks to your tutorial I see how I can do that. So that's one thought.
My other thought was about 'booting in Safe Mode without internet'.
Are these 2 methods compatible? Can I (using a new non-MS account) also boot into Safe Mode without internet?
Or would I then be unnecessarily doubling up or wasting my time / resources, etc.?

    Thanks Brink for your time.

    Hello mate,

Sure, you can run Windows 10 with only using a local account if wanted.

You'll also be able to boot into safe mode without Internet. Of course, you will not be able to use anything that requires an Internet connection.
