It won't matter because a password is required for a Microsoft account. You cannot remove the password of a Microsoft account.

If you like, you can switch to a local account using the tutorial below, then be able to remove the password of your local account.

If you wanted to be able to use any Windows apps (aka: modern apps) in a local account, you would need to sign in to the Store with a Microsoft account though.

Hi Brink, Since you are an admin I thought I would provide what finally worked for me to reset local accounts (no microsoft account, or reset disk) on my PC after upgrading to Windows 10. The solutions above did not.
Log in as the admin. Holding down the "windows key" and press "r" , a run dialog box appears, then type "netplwiz" and click OK - the rest is easy you get a user account screen and there is an option to reset passwords

Hello Merlyn, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Yeah, that works great for a local account (see option one below), but this was for a Microsoft account instead.

Hm. I successfully changed my Microsoft account password, but when I tried to log into my PC (on which that account is the only one - no local), the old password still worked. What's up with that?!

    Hello Terarant, :)

The new password will not sync to the PC unless it's connected to the Internet. Sometimes, it may take up to 24 hours to reset afterwards.

Until this happens, the old password will still work.

Oh. I didn't know that - thought something had gone wrong because of a coincidental BSOD. Thanks :)

Hello Shawn mate the partners granddaughters laptop I have tried resetting the password for one she wants using all options but am getting balked at every step the easiest one I thought to use - Option 1 requires a text message back from Microsoft with a digital code to be entered but the text message never arrives!!

So either I have entered the wrong phone number - possible but unlikely or that she has just changed phones (using same SIM card) and the phone for whatever reason is not being recognised by Microsoft though I think that is again unlikely.

Any ideas because the lusermgr option would not open for me on the machine

    Hey John, :)

In that case, you may need to use OPTION THREE below to reset the password of her Microsoft account.

Has anyone figured out how to reset the outlook and office 365 business account password at the same time(Via a script or another method)? I use the same email address for the outlook account and office365 business account. Would be great if I could find a way to reset both passwords at the same time.
