What a confusing muddle Microsoft have created for us to try and understand

Hope Edge will get a Favorites Manager, which opens in a new tab so editing Favorites is simple again. Just like in Google Chrome and their Bookmarks Manager.

We now have a 3rd party Favorites manager for Edge. It manages the new database where they have put the favs in Edge. Seems to work well, I just used it with over 9000 favorites. See articles here.

Hello, I successfully deleted my imported Edge favorites which were all messed up. I also turned off synching in Edge. Then rebooted and turned on sync again thinking it would get a mirror image of my IE favorites. Instead, I have two of some folders, favorites I deleted long ago in IE, and some folders not in IE are in Edge (folders which I deleted some time ago). I can try the import favorites directly from IE and keep the sync function off but would like to - ideally - have sync on. I don't have any other browsers installed.

Any idea where sync searches for favorites? How I end up with two of many folders? Hopefully if I can understand Edge's sync functionality and process I can outsmart it. Probably not. Thanks

    Hello Kent, :)

Microsoft Edge syncs the information using your Microsoft account online. It may take a bit after deleting the duplicates for it to get synced and straightened out.

Personally, I prefer to keep a backup of my favorites and restore them as needed instead.

Hi, I deleted all Edge favorites that had been synched from my Microsoft account using your script. I waited a few days, turned sync back on - and somehow keep getting old deleted favorites and other folders that I deleted or changed.

I am on the same machine - I want to have Edge have the same favorites as IE 11. When I import directly that works well.

However, I'd really like to figure out what is going on with sync and where/how it is finding favorites that are old, etc. I figured that Edge would get the synced favorites and favorites bar from my most recent version of IE11 favorites. Especially after I deleted them from Edge and waited 2-3 days for my Microsoft account to hopefully get my most latest version of favorites to use.

I may end up doing what you suggest and backup and restore as needed . . . but since I am only using one machine - I can't figure out why Windows can't sync my current favorites . . . and stop finding old ones and ones I deleted in the past.

    Thanks

    Hey Kent,

Unfortunately, deleting the Edge favorites will only do so on your local PC. It doesn't affect the synced favorites from your MSA online (cloud).

It may be best to turn off syncing to prevent the old ones from being synced back.

Thanks. I'll do that - too bad this sync function does not work as I imagine it was designed to. K.

It would help if there was an easy way to remove items from the sync source that you no longer want synced.
