    Hi Brink,

Tried your 'solution', unfortunately it had no effect at all. So it looks like I have a green screen prior to the sign-in screen until someone at Microsoft realises that there is a problem! I have also run sfc /scannow in Admin mode, it found no problems at all.

Here's one more thing to check to just rule it out. Check to make sure that you have Show Windows background turned on, or have Remove background images (where available) unchecked.

    Hi Shawn.

Some 15 days ago I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro x64 and I have chosen to use Windows Spotlight as my Lockscreen.
Windows Spotlight was working perfectly giving me some amazing images until 3-4 days ago (maybe more, not exactly sure when happened) it stopped. It is frozen in the red airplane image for all that time and it does not give me the usual “Like what you see…?” option anymore.

First of all I have Disabled the Secure Sign-in option (to be precise, never changed it from the default).

Going to MS forums I saw that it might help if I repair things. So I did.
    I run both:
dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and sfc /scannow NO PROBLEMS found
but nothing… Same image stuck there.

I tried both with my local account (which I use everyday) and my microsoft account. Same thing…red airplane!

If it means anything, I should mention that in the %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\Assets folder
I don't have any Spotlight images (at least the ones that I got when the Spotlight was working), but 7 small images (150x150) of the games and apps I uninstalled/deleted after clean installation (Candy Crush Soda Saga, Minecraft, Flipboard, Twitter etc).

Do you have any idea, how to reset Windows Spotlight so it starts giving me these great images again?
    Thanx. Dimitri

    Hello Dimitri, :)

You might see if setting to use a picture for your lock screen for a few minutes, then switch back to using Windows Spotlight may toggle it to work properly again.

In that case, you could try doing a repair install to hopefully fix it without losing anything.

Hi Shawn. As I said...you’ll be the one to blame!!! :)

Just to post back the results.
As proposed, I tried the In-place Upgrade which failed... with error 0xC1900101 - 0x40017 (The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during BOOT operation) and returned the PC back to where I started!
So far so good …ehhh? At least I was back where I started.
Nope… After the failure as the system was restored to where I started the In-place Upgrade, I tried to reboot and the PC got stuck in Restarting screen. Waited for a while, 15-20 min., and I finally shut it down….and that’s where the beauty started. It could not log me in. After a couple of more restarts the only way to restart was to restore everything back to the image I had made right after the clean install of Windows 10, which meant re-installation of all the apps (Office, Adobe Master Suite etc.).

And the beauty of it: although the system was “pure and clean” from the image, the problem with the Spotlight was still there. Stuck in the red airplane image, neither refreshing any images nor giving me “Like what you see?” question. That's how it still is....

So I’m back in the process of reinstalling everything. From what I have been reading in the Microsoft forums, the Spotlight problem seems to be a more general one in the Pro version of Windows 10, which I have. It seems to be working perfectly in my wife's and daughter's laptops who both have the Home edition.

As soon as I finish with the restoration of my laptop I will continue the quest for a solution or an answer from Microsoft and I'll post any findings.

    Dimitri,

I'm sorry to hear that it wasn't able to help. Hopefully a clean install will sort It for you.

The Windows spotlight image usually changes for me every time I switch between using a picture and spotlight. This was in Windows 10 Pro.
