What about the new Google Drive App?

Hello, I'm glad this thread is still active after all this time.

Now that Google has released the new Google Drive app, will this technique still work? I'd like to give it a try.

    Hello Doc Brown,

It should still work if you would like to try it.

If it doesn't for some reason, you can use the remove option to undo it.

Please let me know if it doesn't so I can do some testing with it.

Well the *.reg option worked. But the BAT option didn't. It exited with the error: Google Drive Backup and Sync is not installed.
That shouldn't be too hard to fix.
One comment. Is is possible to change the icon in the navigation pane to the Google icon?

    Your most welcome.

You can modify the value for the key below to specify an .ico file you want to use instead.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{3935ea0f-5756-4db1-8078-d2baf2f7b7b2}\DefaultIcon

The New App is a PITA...... it is very intrusive and there are numerous complaints on the Google Forums

It auto adds Virtual Drives letters taking up valuable Drive Letters for each one you have, AND auto pins each one to quick access
as well, which is also unwelcome to say the least and they are named for EACH EMAIL ADDRESS so really long.....

Oh so very true! But this is being forced on us as of Oct, 2021. But let's not hijack this thread with that.

That worked but make sure you don't include the ",0" on the end. I thought that might be needed since that is the form of the existing entry. I use the path: C:\Program Files\Google\Drive File Stream\50.0.11.0\GoogleDriveFS.exe
