    Hello

There's an easier way to hide this network icon in windows explorer, with a reg key (policy), without change any permission in registry :

    For all users :

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum]
    "{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}"=dword:00000001

    For current user :

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\NonEnum]
    "{F02C1A0D-BE21-4350-88B0-7367FC96EF3C}"=dword:00000001

    That's it ! Works under 7/8/8.1 too.

    Thank you Tim. :)

That option will also remove the "Network" desktop icon, and not just from the navigation pane.

It just depends if that matters for it to be a problem for some folks or not.

Unable to save permission changes on ShellFolder

    Hi,

I have performed this task (removing Network from Windows Explorer navigation) literally hundreds of times in Windows 7. It is even the same registry key, which I have memorized.

I am attempting this on a new Windows 10 machine I am setting up. I am logged in as the local Administrator, which is my usual process.

I am at the key in regedit and I cannot change permissions to allow Administrators full control - I get the error "Unable to save permission changes on ShellFolder. Access is denied."

I am totally stumped as to where to go from here if even the Administrator account cannot change this.

I thought about trying to take ownership in Advanced, taking it away from SYSTEM, but I am not sure if that will affect anything else down the line.

Hello ozium, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

That's correct. You will need to take ownership of the "ShellFolder" key as noted in step 4 first before you will be able to change its permissions.

    Help

Hello Adiy, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

It looks like you didn't do steps 4 and 5 yet.
I have a machine that like to do things different then other Windows 10. I have tried ALL steps to delete Networks. First time changed to admin and machine self destructed. This time changed to System (String and Shell) but can not gain full access. Following your steps I am blocked. Trying what I know I am blocked. There is just no way on this machine to change attributes following everything I know and what you have listed. Once you get passed CSLID you can not edit only review. Any help would be nice.

Hello @Portagie68, and welcome to Ten Forums.

You will only be able to peform the steps in the tutorial while signed in to an administrator account.

What do you mean by "First time changed to admin and machine self destructed"?

Signed in as Administrator. I have selections of system, administrator, and several other selection. Assigned key to System since Admin selection no work. All I can only review. No edit. File is totally locked no matter who U chose. Now I know there is a way to run regedit as administrator. I have tries ALL of the helps to make regedit runs as admin but none work.
