    Wait, so, I'm on 1803 Home, and had them disabled with option 4, but it *still* just downloaded a freakin' touchpad driver over the one that works best. I just checked, and I hadn't disabled them with option 2, but I'm reading that option 2 doesn't even work anymore, so would that even matter? Why is 1803 still downloading drivers with option 4 set to disable? I also have driver updates disabled in Device installation settings. What gives?

    Hello mmortal03,

    You can still also do Option Two. It's just that Option One (same setting) is no longer available to set in Settings.

    I've found that when dealing with Windows Update, nothing is always 100%.

    None of these methods work for me on Win 10 1607 LTSB 2016. I also have gpedit set to notify before download and/or install plus all the following registry/gpedit settings and STILL it downloads the drivers and attempts to ram them in by force. The actual install fails thanks to the block by hardware id part, but I get so sick of (re)downloading (and storing) a gig of Nvidia driver $#it every time it checks for updates.

    My guess is the Nvidia driver in question is marked as a "security update" and so all this tweaking/blocking/fixing is just going to be ignored.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching]
    "SearchOrderConfig"=dword:00000000 ***note: tried dword:00000003 as well, didn't work

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Device Metadata]
    "PreventDeviceMetadataFromNetwork"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions]
    "DenyDeviceIDs"=dword:00000001
    "DenyDeviceIDsRetroactive"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions\DenyDeviceIDs]
    "1"="HDAUDIO\\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_1458A182&REV_1003"
    "2"="HDAUDIO\\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_1458A182"
    "3"="PCI\\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C02&SUBSYS_8C951462&REV_A1"
    "4"="PCI\\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C02&SUBSYS_8C951462"
    "5"="PCI\\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C02&CC_030000"
    "6"="PCI\\VEN_10DE&DEV_1C02&CC_0300"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Settings]
    "DisableSystemRestore"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate]
    "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001 ***note: gpedit creates this one, see below

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]
    "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate"=dword:00000001 ***note: did not exist but created due to this tutorial, didn't work

    Result:

    Hello! Same here I tried all 4 options.. (Windows 10 build 1803 with AMD Radeon R7 M260). My last resort is reverting back to previous drivers in Device Management, if Windows allows

    Unfortunately, MS has lost it again and since 1803, it is no longer possible.

    The only option is to disable WinUpdates altogether and install them manually.

    Hello lhimo,

    You could use the method in the tutorial below to hide available updates you don't want to install.

    I eventually installed the update and reverted back to the previous one via the Device Manager. For now it seems to be working! Thanks anyway, I'll keep it in mind for the future

    Has anybody had any success in just flat out disabling the Windows update in Services? Or can that induce system instability?

    That used to work, but now Windows will just re-enable it all by itself.
