    KC,

I'm happy to hear that you have your Mom's profile fixed.

However, if her original profile folder is still intact, everything should still be there as well. Were you able to restore her original profile, or did you create a new profile for her?

I'm not sure if I know what you mean. I'm pretty sure I restored her original profile like I did with my the first time this happened to me last month. I copied her user in the C drive under her user which is (C:\Users\Cole's) into the registry editor and replaced the temporary one with that one. I don't know how to even create a new profile? Or If I managed to do that somehow? I followed all the steps in how to fix and get out of temporary. I'm actually having the same problem with my name. I haven't been able to get back my bookmarks and everything saved like the last time I did it.

Sorry, I meant did you notice if all the files in her and your profile folders were still there before you restored the path in the registry?

    KC,

Google Chrome stores bookmarks as the Bookmarks file below. You might see if you can locate it there. If not, then check to see if you may have a "C:\Windows.old" folder that may have a copy of the original profile folder with the file below in it that you could copy back.

    "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks"

I went to where you said but there is not a bookmarks folder but rather something that says it though.

I haven't been so lucky it seems....

Tried changing the registry....didn't work and despite doing a system restore right back to the 19/3/17....the profile has completely vanished along with everything in it and there's nothing in the folder when you look using file explorer....it's literally like the profile never existed!

Not sure why system restore didn't work...I had to use the Windows Apps error workaround as system restore kept throwing up a 0x80070091 error.

Fortunately most of our stuff was backed up but we spent £40 on data recovery software which pulled up 8.5 gb in the user folder that was showing as empty but alas absolutely none of it was usuable and was all corrupted!

I've resigned myself to the fact that it seems I'll never get that profile back. All because of some issue with a Microsoft Sign in.....local accounts from now on methinks!!!

The Bookmarks file you see there is her bookmarks for Chrome. :)

I'm glad you were able to restore them for your Mom.

Search at the same location for your account to see if you may have the Bookmarks file.

Hello @mcbgun, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

I'm afraid that System Restore only includes system files and not any of your personal files in your "C:\Users" folder.

Did you have any system images available to restore?

    Hi Brink,

I had the same issue as everyone else here. So I followed your instructions, I had to try a few times. But when i finally worked my desktop was recovered it looked like this screenshot. It looks like I lost half of the files from my computer. Are my files still somewhere hidden or did I lose everything?
I hope you can help me with my problem.
