<username> would just be for whatever the actual name of the profile folder is for your account in the "C:\Users" folder.

If you still have a temp account, then you should now be able to change the path for the ProfileImagePath value to the correct path of your real user profile folder.

Hi! Thanks very much for this useful thread. This problem has just occurred to me. I've followed the instructions for looking in the registry, and I've actually found three keys which are an SID key with a .bak extension. Of these three:

    • one has no corresponding key with the same value without the .bak extension
    • one has the ProfileImagePath value set to my profile path, C:\Users\Mike
    • one has it set to C:\Users\UpdatusUser

I'm going with assumption that I should use the one with my own profile path in. However, I'm a bit concerned. The fix description says:

This option will delete the user profile of the user account getting the temporary profile error to reset and rebuild the user's profile and settings by creating a new profile folder to fix this error.
Does this mean that all the files in my profile path will be deleted? Will I lose my Documents, Pictures, Downloads, etc? Will I have to painstakingly back them all up before I do the fix, and then restore them all afterwards?

I'd be really grateful if you could clarify this for me!

    Thanks in advance.

Hello Mikey, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

You won't lose anything if you are able to have the correct path of your user profile for the ProfileImagePath value of the SID key that's for your account with .bak at the end.

OK, thanks for that. So when the description says "This option will delete the user profile of the user account" - it doesn't mean that the contents of C:\Users\Mike will be deleted?

EDIT: And thanks for the welcome! This looks like a very helpful place :)

Correct. It won't delete the actual folder.

You would only want to delete all SID keys if you weren't able to get your profile to load with the correct path though.
