Hello Bradford, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

See if you may get lucky if a simple restart of the computer may sort it.

I'm having this issue at least once a day on my company network of ~180 machines about 95% of which are Windows 10 (edit; Pro).

The profile paths in the registry are always correct and I basically have to delete/rename the registry entry for that user and the folder from *\users. This "fixes" the issue about 50% of the time, however this not always works and can take days to resolve. I had one user who had this happen every day for over two weeks, getting beyond a joke now.

I've looked through our logon processes, our Group Policy settings, checked various things on both the local machines and DCs.

This issue along with one where drives are not mapped consistently and regular 100% disk usage by Windows components make Win 10 very unpopular with my staff.

Help! Yesterday my laptop may have overheated a bit and after that, when turning it on, I get only temporary users both at Owner user and Administrator. When I log in trough administrator and go to registry, only 1002.bak file shows there. what can I do? or is the only option Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade ? Hello san4o, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If the SID key with .bak at the end is the correct one for the "Owner" account, then you could try renaming the SID key to remove ".bak" from the end of it, and restart the computer to see if that may help restore your profile.

If it doesn't, then you could delete the SID key for the "Owner" account like in step 9, and restart the computer to have a new profile created for the account.

Well, I deleted the ".bak" part and after restart I had 3 users to log on to, administrator and two owner, I tried to log on to the second owner account and it logged on to the real deal. Now I'm afraid to shut down the computer, but I know it's not good to just leave it on sleep all of the time

What do you show in the registry now for the same location?

well it stayed as I edited it. now instead of 1002.bak it is 1002
But there are no 1001 endings and there is no 1002.bak file as well

That sounds good. You should be fine to restart the computer and have it still work properly.

If for some reason it doesn't, then you could repeat the above to get it back in shape for now.

OK! Thank you so much for the help. I'm in the midst of writing important papers for work and it would have been very bad if I could not have used my laptop to continue working on them!
