    Hello Hunter, and welcome to Ten Forums.

    If you have a SID key for your account under the ProfileList key, make sure that the ProfileImagePath value has the correct full path of your user profile folder, then restart the computer to see if that may help.

    If this still doesn't help, then you could also try doing a system restore using a restore point dated before you started getting the temp. profile error.

    I had changed the folder names under users right after installation to keep it tidier. Obviously the PC liked the shortened names better . Lightbulb went off on step 8. Changed them back and sorted it out. Thanks/

    Unfortunately, I no longer have the two SIDs that the fix deals with, since I deleted the two while following step nine. It occurs to me that I may have deleted the incorrect files. In any case, this is what I have now...

    As for the system restore, it says that I haven't got any points to restore to, so I guess that's out.

    It's odd that Windows didn't automatically recreate the user profile and its registry entries. Did you delete the user account instead by mistake?

    Are you able to create a new user account to use instead?

    The impression I'm getting is that windows didn't make a registry for the temporary account, so when I tried to do step nine, I mistakenly thought I was supposed to delete the user account SID.

    That being said, when I manage user accounts in the control panel, my account is still the only thing that appears. It's hard to tell which account I'm in though, since the start button no longer functions, but since the address for my documents is still C:\Users\TEMP.LAPTOP-NSDSEDC0\Documents, I can't help but think I'm still in the temporary account.

    I'm going to try making a new user account. I'll come back and tell you how it goes.

    It sounds like you are signed in to a temp account still.

    You can type %UserProfile% in the address bar of File Explorer to see what user profile folder it opens. This will be the one you are currently signed in to.

    Thanks! Looks like the temporary account. It also looks like when I deleted the files, I removed my ability to access the settings app. It doesn't matter how I try to launch it, the app refuses to open. So it looks like making a new account is out of the question.

    So this is weird. I attempted to boot in safe mode to see if I could make a new user account from there. I didn't have any luck, but upon restarting, I found that the start menu is working again and that I can open my settings. I still can't seem to make a new account, but might not need to. I've looked in the regedit and found a new SID. The image path inside it read C:\Users\Hunter The O'Brian.LAPTOP-NSDSEDC0.

    This isn't the correct file name, so I was considering going through step 8, but I also checked in my Users folder and found a new folder which matches the name inside the new SID.

    The "C:\Users\Hunter The O'Brian.LAPTOP-NSDSEDC0" folder would be your new user profile folder for your account.

    If your account is still not working properly, then you could try changing the path in the registry back to "C:\Users\Hunter The O'Brian", and restart the computer to see how it does afterwards. If it's worse, then you could change it back to "C:\Users\Hunter The O'Brian.LAPTOP-NSDSEDC0".

    If all else fails, you could try doing a repair install to fix it without losing anything.
