    Hey there,

So I also currently have this problen, occurred when I had to force restart computer, I tried the steps taken and it still has me logging in as a Temporary user. Preferably, I don't want to resort to an OS reinstall

Current situation is what happens at Step 13 (have 2 SID, one with .bak and one without .bak)

So if you have any help, I'd be glad to get it

Hello @Derail, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If it still will not fix your profile after doing all the steps and options in the tutorial, then you could use what's in the note box under the last step 15 to create a new profile for your account.

    Hi Brink,

I also probably should have mentioned this before, but its the main Administrator account that's having this problem, not a local account.

It's also linked to a Microsoft account, so not sure if that will affect whether your solution will work.
Also, I was trying it from the TEMP Profile, which again, not sure if it will affect the solution

daryl (currently the .bak) is the profile I want to get back and TEMP.LAPTOP (current account) is the temporary account

In the event I do need to create a new account, how would I do it so that the account has the highest privileges like the main profile. I do have another account that also has administrator status, but it cannot access the files from daryl since it doesn't have the highest privileges.

    Daryl,

Just to confirm, did you already do all of step 13?

    Hi Brink,

    Yes I did.

    - I deleted the 1001 (TEMP)
    - Then I renamed the 1001.bak by removing the .bak from 1001.bak
    - Since the Pathing was already set to daryl as shown in the third screenshot, just in case, copied the Pathing that C drive uses--> C:\Users\daryl
    - Then i set the state of 1001 (what got renamed) to 0 (with the Hex option selected)
    - Closed regedit from the File menu
    - Restarted computer
    - Nothing changed

I did also check the Event Logs and this is what it says for the 1511
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

The other Error I wasn't sure was related is 1502
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile.
DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry.

Usually when that happens, you may have to create a new profile to use for the account instead using the note box under step 15.

It doesn't matter if it's a local account or Microsoft account since this is just the profile for the account.

Would you recommend a reinstall of Windows 10 as an alternate solution? Or another guide on what would be the best solution ?

Or just creating another account, copying everything over, and abandoning the old account?

Sure, a reset or clean install of Windows would work, but you would be starting completely over from scratch.

Do you have a system image backup dated before this happened to restore?

If you wanted to create a new profile, it would basically be the same as a new account. Programs will still be installed luckily, but you may need to create new shortcuts for them.

It really comes down to what you would like to do, and what may work best for you.

    Hi Brink,

Yeah, for now at least until I can get a permanent fix, I made a new account and currently copying files from the old account over to the new one.

Is there a way to transfer super user privileges from one account to another?

If you mean how to make the account an administrator, you can use an option in the tutorial below to do so.
