Hello Stanix, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If you do a system restore, you would lose anything you installed after the date of the restore point.

If you're signed on to an administrator account (even with a temp profile), you should be able to create a new account to use to sign in with as long as this use profile error is only affecting that one account and not a global issue.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply...and sorry for my delayed response. I will try the steps in this thread again, then I will try creating a new user profile. Thanks again.

    Hi,

First off, I tried the steps again, even checked that the profileimage path is correct and did not have to change it, and I still have the temp profile message upon logging back in.

Now, I tried to create a new user profile. It let me log in without the temp profile message. I was able to see the old user folder (C:\Users\(username)) together with the new one. Now, when I tried to view the files from the old user folder so that I can just copy them over to the new user folder, it won't allow me. Is it because I do not have admin access? And, if I ever got around in copying the files from the old to the new folder.... will I be able to just delete the old user profile, since it seems to have problems/damages? (not sure how to do this) Also, is there a place/folder where the Google chrome bookmarks are stored, so that I can also just copy them over? (Not sure about this one either).

Also, I am really curious about system restore. Will it really delete all files, docs and pics etc. or only those saved on the Desktop? I did not try this yet because I do not have an external drive I can use for backup nor am I sure if just copying these files to the other Partition (Local Disk E) will keep those safe when doing system restore.

Again many thanks and sorry for these boatloads of questions. :)

The System Restore will not delete any documents, pictures, video etc. It will delete all applications and drivers, installed after the Restore point date, exactly as Shawn @Brink told you.

Select a restore point, in System Restore and before proceeding press "Scan for affected programs". This will tell you what will be affected! Thus you decide if you want to go ahead or not.

    Hi,

Just saw your reply...thanks a lot. :) Now, my doubts are clear about the system restore, and my curiosity got answered.

So far, the new local account/profile is good, no error messages of any sort, so, I'll go with that, as what Brink had first suggested. I just need to get those files, and maybe the bookmarks, moved over from the old to the new user folder for easier access. I'll see if I can get around that. This makes me think that the old profile really is damaged or something. I just hope this problem does not appear again on this new profile.

    Again, thanks a lot. :)

    You're most welcome.
As for your bookmarks, if you're using Microsoft Edge, check Option 3 in this tutorial to get them from your old user account

    Hi,

Thanks. I got the Google Chrome bookmarks copied over to the new user profile somehow by "un-hiding" the hidden folders first, then going to: /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default and copying the bookmark and bookmark.bak files.
Now, I'm just trying to move over the files (docs, pics etc.) from the old to the new user profile.

Can I just delete the old profile after moving the files without problems, or am I better off with keeping it?

Once you verify that all your files have been moved, yes you can delete it.
Either way it's corrupted and of no use.
