I managed to force the re-creation of the profile folder on win10 with the 1709 update:
    1. logged-in as admin
    2. regedit
    3. noted down the Sid value in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-XXX.
    4. Also noted down the XXX value
    5. dropped the key Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-xxx
    6. dropped the key Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileGuid\the_sid_on_point_3
    7.dropped Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileService\References\S-1-5-XXX
    8. reboot
    Hope that helps.

Hello forsakendev18, and welcome to Ten Forums.

If doing the steps exactly in the tutorial do not help to fix this error, then it usually means your account is corrupted and beyond repair.

If you like, you could try doing a repair install to see if that may fix this for you without a clean install. Be sure to back up anything you want to keep first to be safe.

    Hi,

Thanks for starting this thread. I had this problem for four days now and unfortunately, this did not work for my pc. I had tried this a couple of times, even tried to do a checkdisk first. Now, I'm choosing between creating a new profile, or doing a system restore.
If I try create a new profile or do a system restore, will I lose files, installed programs or anything, or just the customizations? Also, I'm not really sure how to create a new profile.
And, also, have you heard about someone having problems logging back in instead after they attempted a system restore?
Or, is there anything other than creating new profile or the system restore that can be done?
    Thanks.
