You can copy over any individual files you want, but everything else will have to be set up again.

Hopefully you can help me out with this issue - I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 from Win8 but the upgrade didn't work. Now, when the PC boots up it gives me the temp profile, and every time I try to upgrade it fails. I followed the directions you outlined in the first post but every time I reboot the PC it just goes back to the temp profile.

    Any suggestions?

Hello starwarsgeek, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

Which user profile folder is supposed to be the correct one?

Next, post a screenshot showing your registry like under step 4 to see what we may be able to do.

Thanks. I've attached the screenshots of both the regular profile and the .bak one. The C:\users\StarWarsGeek is the profile that I want to load. But no matter how many times I delete them they keep coming back the same way.

OK so there we go... the .bak profile is the one that I want to load but like I said, it won't load no matter how many times I delete them as per the instructions in the beginning.

    If you haven't already:

    1) Change the 1001 key to have the correct path.

    2) Delete the 1001.bak key.

    3) Restart computer to see if correct profile loads.

Nope, same result. I've deleted one profile and left the good one, but it adds the TEMP profile back in. I've now edited the TEMP profile to point to the correct one, but it just changed it back. What's next?

OK it looks like it changed the path to C:\Users\StarWarsGeek.Desktop.000 instead of TEMP

Is that profile path working for you?
