It'd be best to let the update finish first to avoid any interruptions. :)

Ok so waited for it to do the updates and then I proceed to do the steps above. I followed the steps 100% and now the laptop is stuck on this screen with the 4 boxs (Windows logo) with a non spinning circle underneath it upon startup?!? Not sure if I should wait and see what happens or turn it off? If I should wait how long should I wait before doing something else? It's been about ten minutes now. Thanks again for your help and these are probably dumb questions to you. Lol

It shouldn't take that long. I would recommend to try doing a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you had this temp profile error issue to hopefully undo and fix it.

Consider saving your pictures and data onto an external hard drive or flash drives. In addition a system image backup if possible.

Found your post and it's like meeting God. My computer is sorted. Thank you for taking the trouble and time to carefully demonstrate how to do this fix. I am OK with office etc but all that event viewer and cmd stuff scares me. You have managed to get even me to fix my problem without having to resort to entrusting it to some backstreet pc doctor. A massive THANKYOU

    Hi Brink.
First of all, what an amazing guide! When it comes to computers I dont know much, so this is very detailed and simple for someone like me...!

Sadly, it didnt fix my pc... First i tried following the steps, but that didnt work... I read more comments and tried to change my ProfileImagePath "name", which also didnt work... Then i followed some more steps and comments, still didnt work... I might have done something wrong... The screenshots show my current situation - can this still be saved?

Hello Bruselius, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

See if doing this below may be able to help.

    1) Delete the top ...1001 SID key that doesn't have .bak at the end.

    2) Rename the ...1001.bak SID key to ...1001 so it doesn't have .bak at the end anymore.

    3) Restart computer.

So I have followed your guide and solved the temporary problem, but there still one problem, how do I get back all the bookmarks and login information that are in the old profile, I copied some of the files from the old user to the new one ex. desktop. or do we have to just start customizing our computer again?
