    You're most welcome.

    Yeah, it's a lot trouble. Usually, it's not something that people want to enable and disable often on demand though, so that could be why.
    Well, I've suggested it in the MS feedback hub. Personally I'd be happy to remove the key completely from my machine, except that it would leave the keyboard looking a bit odd , but my SO sometimes wants to use it - no idea why. I think the last time I used it was when logging into an ancient mainframe which only accepted upper-case names and passwords. Sometime in the late 1900s I think.

    Physically removing the caps lock key works great

    Hi, I want to share with you that I decided to physically remove the caps lock key carefully from both my laptop keyboard and from my external keyboard. It wasn't difficult and the key didn't break from it (I haven't tried to put it back though). Now, of course, I don't press caps lock accidentally anymore. I'm only wondering what took me so long. I had suffered from it for 20 years. Just in case this would be an interesting option to any of you.

    How about something a bit less physical, and possibly irreversible. How about remapping it to, say, the Shift Key. This .reg will do it.

    i have an interesting use case. i use capslock as a keybind in a game. its convenient as its right next to my pinky finger ;p

    problem is, every time i use it and go to type afterwards depending on its prior state, i end up typing in all caps.

    I was hoping that by adding this registry string it would allow me to still use it as a bind, but prevent the all caps behavior. seems to not work regardless. or at least not on windows 11? or does it require a restart?

    capslock still working as a bind, but also still making things all caps.

    Hello mate,

    It does require to sign out/in or restart the computer to apply.

    and thats what i get for not checking first. i skimmed the OP, normally you have that listed. You very well could and i just missed it though. multi tasking + whiny toddlers = scrambled brain.

    gonna go ahead and restart and assume all will be well. (restarting is a bit of an endeavor with a DAS/30 disks attached etc. takes a minute so i dont unless i have to lol)

    well, for those that get a similar idea to mine. bad call. it disables the key entirely, wont work as a bind or for anything. I was hoping it just disabled the part that controls its behavior with forcing all caps.

    This is the 3rd attempt to disable the Caps Lock key and all failed including this one. Thou it appears it added the key, but it doesn't disable the Caps Lock.
    The other Registry method located in a completely different folder, I wasn't allowed to edit the value of the key that was created which I've never encountered before.

    That location was;
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout
    with a created Binary Value key (named ScanCode Map) of;
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00 00 3A 00 00 00 00 00

    The 1st attempt was a program written in 2009 for W7 that claimed it was for W10, but the program error out when I tried to run it.

    Hello,

    Just to confirm, did you restart the computer afterwards to apply?
