Caps Lock is a button on a keyboard that changes if a letter should be capitalized or not.

This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable all users being able to toggle on or off the Caps Lock key in Windows 10.

You must be signed in as an administrator to enable or disable the Caps Lock key.

    (delete) = enable

    1. Do step 2 (enable) or step 3 (disable) below for what you would like to do.

    5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    6. If prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    7. Sign out and sign in, or restart the computer to apply.

    8. If you like, you can delete the downloaded .reg file.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    Shawn,

Why would it be necessary for anyone to want to disable the caps lock key? I appreciate knowing how to do it but can't get my mind around why someone would want to do this?

    Best

    Hello Geoff,

We had someone post a request for how to do so in the forum, so I wrote a quick tutorial for it.

I suppose if one keeps hitting the Caps Lock key by mistake, that this could be helpful. They could just use the Shift key instead afterwards.

I can't understand why people defend "caps lock". A useless key for the vast majority of users (please don't tell me how programmers need it) that is unfortunately prominently placed on most keyboards.

Not needed, wastes time when mistakenly used, and should have been eliminated years ago. Ridiculous you need a registry edit to disable it in Windows.

    Yep me!!!!

Note: The original PNGs I found on Bing Images, but artist name wasn't given, I did alot of modifying in GIMP and iconified them myself though.

    But....
Shawn you know how I like personalizing dry things like .bat, .vbs, and .reg file, right?

    1. Well I created a folder for both reg files, and placed it in my Documents folder.
    2. Then I created shortcuts to the desktop(using "Send to").
    3. I placed the shortcuts in a folder on the desktop.
    4. Then I customized the folder icon, and the reg file shortcuts(you cannot change the actual reg files icon, hence the shortcuts).

I did this so that I could run both files as needed from the desktop toolbar.
