i did
Get-appxpackage -allusers *Messaging* | Remove-AppxPackage
to uninstall messaging from my user account. It worked but it did not remove it from the other user accounts on the machine. I cannot get it to remove from their accounts at all. Even tried logging into the other users and doing the remove app for that account from there but it didn't work. any advice on how to get rid of messaging for all the accounts?

You could try reinstalling the app from the Store, and then see if you may be able to uninstall it from the other accounts.

I tried re installing but there is some kind of error code on that specific app at the moment preventing it. It all began when the cumulative update screwed a few apps including messaging. I was able to go back to store to repair the other apps but messaging wouldn't do it. It was then having a negative effect on the start menu causing various random programs to be written in grey text whilst others were white. Removing messaging fixed this. Anyway I have now sorted it for the other users. I logged into their accounts and ran the remove command for just that user. The reason it didn't work before is because I was using powershall elevated rather than just powershell - Doh!

I've deleted all apps, but I have not been able to delete these empty links from the start menu.
