Windows 10: Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10
You don't want to uninstall apps used by the system. Usually, it won't let you since they are in use.
Basically, if you can't uninstall an app using the normal method in the UI, then it won't uninstall in PowerShell either.
Okay, I don't mind, thank you
Option 5 - wmic
If I use Option 5, it doesn't seem to work out quite the same way as it does in your screenshot.
If I type "wmic product get name" in step 2, then I end up back at the command prompt. See my screeenshot.
But in your screenshot you seem to end up at "wmic:root\cli>".
This means that if I type "product where name=”name of program” call uninstall" as step 4, I just get an error saying 'Product' is not recognised as a command, I guess because I'm back at a command prompt and not within wmic?
I suspect that typing "wmic" on its own before step 4 would make it work out?
Or maybe this command would work directly from a command prompt? (I've not tried this yet.)
"wmic product where name=”name of program” call uninstall"
Thank you. It looks like it changed. I updated the commands in OPTION FIVE, and will get the screenshots updated now.
Does that mean I have no way of uninstalling the "Groove Music", "Film & TV", "Photos", "Mail and Calendar", "Maps", Weather", "Alarms & Clock", "Voice Recorder", "People" and "Camera" apps?
Yes, you can install them if you like if they are not currently in use.
However, most of those are the default apps in Windows 10. Unless you have another app set as the default instead, it could cause issues to uninstall them.
uninstall windows apps
I used option 2 using powershell.exe and it did uninstall people, zune video and zune music
which also got rid of the music player which wasn't really good.

music now. thanks for the help. jon l
Glad it could help Jon, and welcome to Ten Forums.
Many of the Universal Apps cannot be uninstalled because the button is inactive (grayed out). This might be 'by design' for the Technical Preview since Microsoft wants users to test the Apps.
The preferred method is to use the uninstall button...
