    @Brink, Hello Shawn,
    My
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
    link BINARY
    was 1e 00 00 00
    vs
    15 00 00 00 like the OP has.

Not sure why the difference - this was on 19041.1288. Changing it to 00 00 00 00 worked to turn off "- shortcut" as I wanted.
    Hi Steve:
Glad it worked for you. I've had to change that value to 00 00 00 00 many times. It seems that certain updates change it back...at least that's been my experience. I'm at 19043.1165.

Hi and thanks phrab, I'll have to keep that in mind. You're not ready for the October CU yet, huh?

I usually wait on the CUs & other updates...just in case Microsoft decides there's a problem with the update that they want to fix.

Sorry for the late reply. I had to do some testing with this.

I don't have the link value by default in the latest build.

    Hey Brink,
I know it's been a while, so i hope i'll still be someone around.
I tried applying your .bat file, and checked every step manually in the registry, but without success.
I tried changing the "link" string value to "%s.lnk" from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\NamingTemplates,
    but without further success.

    I'm on LTSC 1809 BTW.

Is your .bat still supposed to work with that version ?

    Thanks

    Hello Mr Nike,

    The BAT should still work.

Do note, this doesn't affect existing shortcuts. It only affects shortcuts created afterwards.

thanks for the quick reply :)
Hmm, unfortunately, i double checked the registry, everything has been modified as in the bat file, but the .exe are still there...
I applied the Sophia script on my comptuter and did many other deep tweaks. That might be the reason. e.g. this tweak doesn't work either.

Were you wanting to remove file name extensions from showing like below instead?
