    Actually i want to show file extensions, but hide the extension name when creating shortcuts.
    The BAT in step 3 should remove the "Shortcut" part of the name like below. It will not remove any file extension name though.

    Well, must be something wrong with my computer... v
    I tried this one at the first place. And just checked it again, and everything is a per .bat file.
    Well, i think i'll have to leave with it. It's not such a big deal.
    Thanks for your help anyway :)

    No problem. Sorry, to hear it's not working as it should when creating a new shortcut.

    It seems at some point, they removed HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\NamingTemplates

    Now you only need to change the link value (and restart explorer) for this to work.

    Here's a bit o PowerShell to do it:

    Set-ItemProperty 'Registry::HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer' -Name 'link' -Value (0,0,0,0)
    Stop-Process -ProcessName 'explorer'

    Hello Michael,

    Correct. The BAT files will delete the ShortcutNameTemplate string value in that key if there.
