This can be e.g. if a scheduled task creates automatically new SRP at Windows startup.
Run the following command via PowerShell and see whether the task is "Disabled".

    Get-ScheduledTask -TaskPath \Microsoft\Windows\SystemRestore\

    Code:
    PS C:\Users\Matthew_Wai> Get-ScheduledTask -TaskPath \Microsoft\Windows\SystemRestore\

    TaskPath TaskName State
    -------- -------- -----
    \Microsoft\Windows\SystemRestore\ SR Disabled

One line of command will do the job.

    vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=C: /for=C: /maxsize=21%

I have not seen you for a long time. Welcome back, David.
Thank you for the warm welcome.
I have long since aware that my knowledge of Windows is below par. Not good enough to help others. Best to eat the humble pie than make a fool of myself.

Case in point. I remember clearly the very first time I talked to you. Your were a newbie. Now a Guru. Wow!

Two Pro 20H2. Both create restore points via the GUI.

One always makes restore points when commanded by any of three commands.
The other always fails all three commands, one of which is Option two of this turorial :Create System Restore Point in Windows 10-pserr-atci-.jpg

The wmic command, also discussed in this thread, fails stating nothing more than "Not found". No, it is not the executable file that is not found; wmic runs, instantly reports the error.

    Hello,

As a test, does the commands used in the context menu added by the tutorial below work for you?

The action in the referenced command is the same: powershell Checkpoint-Computer.

I have had very little access to the second computer. I was able to list the cmdlets, to confirm that Checkpoint-Computer is there.
The functionality reported as unsupported "in the OS" is some functionality involved in restore point creation in the way that Checkpoint-Computer wants the OS to perfom it (we know that the OS in question does create restore points by other means). We might guess that wmic's "Not found" is a complaint about the same mysterious thing.

I uninstalled the security programs, made no difference.

    At next opportunity, I will do Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth .

Ok, I did that. And lsfc /scannow log shows very few changes, none of which look significant.

So, the failures of restore point creation, as described in comment #72, remain at issue here.

Monitored File Name Extensions | Microsoft Docs (Files with these extensions are monitored by System Restore.)
Here is that list as a spreadsheet for ease of browsing & searching.

Hi, are you aware your screenshot is quite unreadable (certainly to me). I even tried downloading it and using image enhancement. Here's how to post a screenshot: (tutorials available)
Create System Restore Point in Windows 10-screenshot-.png

    - and consider that some black background images tend to show up poorly. Thanks.

Screenshots cannot be posted; you upload files into which you have saved screenshots.
You're right, the red words in that image are difficult, thanks. In future I will capture and save the text of such error messages, thereby giving black on white. For now, here is the red wording:
"Checkpoint -Computer : This functionality is not supported on this operating system."
