If you mean restore points, then I wouldn't rely on a restore point as a backup. A restore point is really only good for a possible way to undo something recent.

Keeping updated system images would be a much more reliable option if you like.
I keep systems images with AOMEI Backupper. I've just built a new system and unfortunately I didn't do the backup before I had the error. Guessing I will just have to live with it not working.

I'm really trying to get around the fact I'm getting the error 0x81000203 when I try to do a normal restore backup. I tried many a fix and was hoping by doing a manual backup it would fix it.

You can try this below for that specific error message.

Yes I did that except for the reg fix because the System Restore wasn't there

In that case, I can only think a repair install of Windows 10 may fix it short of a clean install.

I use the Macrium Reflect to make back ups of my C: drive on a regular basis. It is more reliable than the System restore tool.

Agreed. Restore points are not really needed. Especially if you keep updated system images.

I now use AOMEI Backupper because Macrium Reflect failed me once big time with loads of errors

Provided you realise that when you restore a disk image, everything- including data- is restored as it was when you created the image. Thus, unless you take other action, you stand the chance of losing all data changes as well as system changes when you restore disk image of C: in particular.

System Restore points, by contrast, have no impact on personal data.

Yes I do know that. I keep my important files on a separate drive which is backed up twice a week
