Was asking because I was using the powershell script and wondered wich type would be the best, in way to simulate the manual type created from the ui. Guess I'm going to go with eighter modify_settings or install. Should cover most of the scenarios.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
I use MODIFY_SETTINGS in my script for the context menu below to have the restore point type as System. It uses "Manual" for the description to help though.

To Create a System Restore Point in Control Panel

    1. Do step 2, step 3, or step 4 below for how you would like to open System.

    2. Open the Win+X Power User Tasks Menu, click/tap on System, and go to step 5 below.
Win+X, System now goes to Settings, not Control Panel.

Do you know any resource where I can read what exactly is included in such a restore point?

    You write
"....install a new app, driver, or Windows update"
    What about registry changes?
Where is the limit of such a restore point, could an anti-virus software be deinstalled completely with such a restore point if I create one before I install the software?

A restore point affects everything except what's in the "C:\Users" folder and its subfolders. Basically the user accounts.

Think of a restore point as a saved system state. They are used to restore your system to the state it was when the restore point was created.

If you did a system restore using a restore point dated before you installed the AV software, that software will no longer be installed afterwards.

Here's some info below from Microsoft with more technical details that I hope will help.

    Hello,

I can't remember the exact specific details, but it is for specifying the type (ex: Manual, System, etc...) of restore point to be created.

Hi Shawn, some very good research here:
System Restore in W10 - removes desktop shortcut?!?
by @das10 suggests some MS documents that would be worth including in the tutorial with a little explanatory text.

Something neither Kari nor I knew for example.. and somewhat contradicts the statement about personal files not having been affected in respect of manually created .lnk files at least.

I suppose .lnk being monitored is to ensure shortcuts to items created during a given period are removed when using a restore point created at the start of the period, with the unfortunate consequence that any shortcuts manually created during that period are removed as well.

Thank you. Added to the top of the tutorial for reference.
