I don't see anything that stands out.
You might see if deleting the account using Option 1 below, and trying creating it again to see if it may work the next round.
Delete User Account in Windows 10 User Accounts Tutorials
I deleted the account using your recommendation.
I created a new account using the same details as before, but using Option 2 this time. I used the following options:
No "Password, and no "Confirm password"
Uncheck, "Users must change password at next login"
Check "User cannot change this password" (for safety)
I got exactly the same result: I see a quick glance of "Welcome", followed immediately by "Signing out".
My current Asus is a "gaming" machine with SSD. I tried the same method on my 10-month-old Dell Vostro. That's a "business" spec with HDD only, so everything is cheaper and slower. (Both machines are Win 10 Pro.) I created and tested the "Kids" accounts without problems.
I've been aware that some unimportant things don't work on the Asus. For example, some poorly-designed websites will not render properly on the Asus, but is OK on the Vostro. Unfortunately I can't find the link.
I'm wondering if I should force the kids to use a simple password - just to slow things down a bit. But I'll wait for your comments first.
.
Odd.
As a test, are you able to create a normal local account, and sign in to it?
If so, you can pick up at step 4 in Option 2 while signed in to your administrator account to convert it from a local user account to a guest account.
Hi Shawn,
I would like to add to this thread, as I have a similar need to OldGrantonian.
I wish to add an account called "visitor" without a password on two PCs: a Windows 10 Pro desktop & a Windows 10 Home laptop. I followed option 1 and finished up with two different results. The new visitor account was created correctly on the Pro PC, but on the Home PC I have exactly the same situation as does OldGrantonian.
The output of "net user visitor" on both PCs is:
On Windows 10 Pro (version 1703 build 15063.608):
User name visitor
Full Name

Any thoughts on where do we go from here?
Hi Shawn,
But isn't option 2 only available on Windows 10 Pro, Education & Enterprise? My problem is on a Windows 10 Home PC.
Sorry. You can pick up at step 3 in Option 1 to convert it instead if you are able to sign in to the new local account.
