    How to Enable or Disable Touch by Finger in Windows 10

    If you have a touch screen in Windows 10, users can specify whether touch input is enabled or disabled for their account on the PC.

    This tutorial will show you how to enable or disable touch by finger for your account in Windows 10.

    This will not affect touch input by finger on the lock screen and sign-in screen.

    Here's How:

    The downloadable .reg files below will modify the DWORD value in the registry key below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch

    TouchGate DWORD

    0 = Disable
    1 = Enable

    1 Do step 2 (enable) or step 3 (disable) below for what you would like to do.

    2 To Enable or Disable Touch by Finger

    This is the default setting.

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Enable_touch_by_finger.reg

    Download

    3 To Enable or Disable Touch by Finger

    A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

    Disable_touch_by_finger.reg

    Download

    4 Save the .reg file to your desktop.

    5 Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

    6 When prompted, click/tap on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

    7 Sign out and sign in, or restart the computer to apply.

    8 If you like, you can now delete the downloaded .reg file.

    That's it,
    Shawn

    This problem has vexed me ever since I upgraded my HP Touchsmart from Windows 7. The touchscreen would work for new accounts created under Windows 10 but not for any existing accounts migrated from Windows 7. All references I could find dealt with hardware or system-wide registry settings but none described user-specific issues until I found this one and it has fixed my issue. Thank you Shawn.

    Shawn,

    This is not intended to be a stupid question.

    Why do you keep referring to 'Touch by Finger' rather just 'Touch'?

    I will now post this using Touch by Nose.

    Hello Denis,

    LOL, I love touch by nose.

    I only called it touch by finger in an attempt to help avoid confusion since it doesn't affect the touchpad or stylus pen.

    I was worried that stating disable touch might get taken as all forms of touch.

    I was thinking about calling it disable touch screen, but that could be mistaken to include stylus pens.

    In conclusion, a very good question with a complicated answer.
